ABOUT MY MATERIALS

THE PAINT

I only use high quality, professional grade oil paint. Both Michael Harding and Winsor & Newton artist line oil paint have been my two paints of choice thus far. I would like to experiment with walnut based paint eventually, but I'm currently very happy with these linseed and safflower based paints.

THE CANVAS

I have recently switched to canvas (from wood board) because of the fine, even texture and bounce canvas offers. It grabs paint differently and I love the toothy surface. I use a fine weave, thus allowing for small details and ease of blending. I prefer 100% cotton canvas, duck weave #12. Stretched over solid wood bars, with extra supports where needed.

THE BRUSHES

Over the years I've experimented with different brands and brush shapes. I have accumulted hundred of brushes, and have established my favourites. I tend to choose brands like Willow Wolfe, Winsor & Newton, and Opus store brand. They all balance quality with affordability, with a reasonable amount of snap and durability. I only use synthetic bristle brushes.
